After establishing a consistent practice of Iyengar Yoga, seasoned students experience the challenge that comes with learning and sustaining the asanas across all categories, including variations in the Inversions. Expect to hold Sirsasana and Sarvangasana for some time, along with their variations, and go up into Full Arm Balance and Urdhva Dhanurasana independently.

Once the basic foundation is learned, Level 1 standing poses are deeply familiar and Sarvangasana can be held for at least 5 minutes, students move onto Level 2. This includes, refines and expands upon what was taught in Level 1. Sirsasana (headstand), Full Arm Balance, and backbends are introduced. Deeper twistings and forward extensions as well as variations in Shoulderstand are explored.

Rejuvenating and supported postures that soothe the nervous system and alleviate tension.

This class will be best experienced using props (or their equivalents) that can provide support, such as a backless chair, a bolster, blankets, blocks, and belts. If you do not have these at home, many common items you do have can suffice, such as: firm pillows, couch pillows, thick bath towels, a low stool, and more. Your teacher can explain how to improvise.
